Ocean State Credit Union Announces New Leadership.

Michael Garvey, CPA has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Ocean State Credit Union, effective January 1, 2024, succeeding David Root, CPA, who has retired after thirteen years as CEO of the Credit Union.

“The Board of Directors wishes to thank David Root for his thirteen years of exceptional leadership to the Credit Union. We welcome Michael Garvey as the new CEO and look forward to the future under his leadership,” said Michael Airhart, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Mr. Garvey of Pawcatuck, Connecticut, retired from the public accounting firm of Garvey, Steele & Bancroft, LLP, in Mystic, Connecticut where he served as the managing partner for the past seven years. Garvey, Steele & Bancroft specialized in providing auditing and consulting services to the credit union industry and was ranked nineteenth in the Country in number of credit unions served. Additionally, Mr. Garvey was a Board member of a publicly traded bank in Connecticut for approximately fifteen years, chairing the audit and risk committee and serving on numerous other committees during his tenure there.

“I am honored to have been selected as the Chief Executive Officer of Ocean State Credit Union and am excited to be working with the employees, Board of Directors, and committee members of the Credit Union and I look forward to leading its future growth. Ocean State Credit Union will continue to provide top-notch service to our members and be good corporate citizens in our Communities.”

Ocean State Credit Union is a state chartered community based credit union with headquarters in Coventry, Rhode Island and branches in Coventry, North Kingstown, Warwick and West Warwick. The Credit Union has approximately $340 million in assets, serves 23,000 members, employs sixty-five persons and offers a wide range of financial products to its members.

Thank you very much to all the Members who took the time out of their to attend the 73rd Annual Shareholders Meeting of the Ocean State Credit Union. We appreciate your presence and support. The meeting commenced with a comprehensive review of the year 2023, highlighting the achievements, milestones, and challenges faced by the organization. All attendees had the opportunity to participate in exciting raffle drawings, adding to the fun and excitement of the event. The meeting concluded with a delightful dinner, providing an opportunity for everyone to bond and network. We look forward to your continued engagement and participation in future events.
